Door to Door Organics (DTD) operates by subscription service. You sign up for the service online, and then DTD delivers fresh produce directly to your door at the frequency specified. Since substantial discounts are available for multiple orders shipped to the same address at the same time, BFC members have their orders shipped to the BFC Distribution every four weeks.

In order to start up the service, you must register at the DTD website at https://michigan.doortodoororganics.com/signup.php?page_state=8.

The registration process consists of the following steps:

• Select the Box (assortment of fresh fruits and/or vegetables) you want from among the 10 different Boxes offered.
• Select the Frequency of Delivery. (Choices presently available are weekly and every 2 weeks, but DTD is looking into a frequency of every 4 weeks).
• Select the Start Date of your subscription.
• Enter your Billing Name & Address -- i.e. where you receive your credit card statements.
• Enter the Shipping Name & Address. The address should be that of Chilson Hills Church, where BFC distributions are held, but the name should be your own -- in other words:

• In order to get the coop discount of at least 10%, put "for Brighton Food Coop" in the Delivery Instructions field.
• Pay for the subscription by providing the requested credit card information.

By noon on the Friday before distribution, DTD will send you email notification of the actual content of the box you will receive at distribution. You will then have till 8AM the following Monday (i.e. the day before distribution) to adjust the content of the box, to switch to a different box, or to put the subscription on "vacation hold".

When you put a subscription on hold, you have to specify both the start and end date of the hold. During that period, DTD will not make any deliveries to you or charge your credit card. Currently, putting a subscription on hold is the only way to set a 4-week delivery schedule consistent with the BFC distribution schedule -- i.e. after each delivery, you must put the subscription on hold for the next 3 weeks. As mentioned, DTD is looking into a 4-week frequency, but until that mechanism is put in place, the frequency can only be accomplished manually.

Similarly, if you want produce delivered to your home in between BFC distributions, you must manually change the Shipping Address back and forth between your home address and the distribution address. When you have the produce shipped to your home, of course, you do not receive the coop discount.

Besides the 10 different Boxes and the grace period for adjustments, DTD offers additional ways to customize your order. For example, you can set preferences to substitute certain produce items you like for other produce items you never want on an ongoing basis. Then if an unwanted item comes up in the default Box for a particular week, DTD will automatically replace it with an item you like, if available.
